17/18 as an exact decimal

Another way a lot easier for me:
17/18=1-1/18, and 1/18=1/2*1/9=1/2*1/3*1/3, i know 1/3 is 0.333333333, so one third is 0.1111111, half is 0.0555555, so 17/18=1-0.0555555=0.94444

17/18 - > long division
since 17 is not divisible by 18 you multiply it by 10 and in the answer move one decimal to the right.
170/18 = 9 -> answer: 0.9
18*9-162
170-162=8
now multiply by 10 again
80/18 = 4 -> answer 0.94
18*4 = 72
80-72=8
and so on...
final answer 0.944444

I panicked (oops) but tried to work through it. I knew I couldn't get it and asked if could give estimate, he said no I want an exact answer. So in the end I had to give in and say i don't know. Retrospectively, I should have asked how to do it to show interest at least, not giving up fully.
