They most likely had an internal candidate, which was why you did well and they never got back to you. The same happened to me. I did 4 phone interviews, thought they all went well, and then suddenly they went silent. A month later, after I accepted an offer from another company, they finally called me and said they ended up hiring an internal candidate, but one of the managers I spoke to had a new position opened up and invited me to apply for it.
