Seemingly this question was not asked in an attempt to gauge my understanding of the role nor explain my qualifications but instead the interviewer genuinely seemed to not know what a Sales Engineer did nor had reviewed my resume prior to the onsite. It led to an interesting operational discussion but unless the interviewer was being coy in their interview style it surprised me that not all all the people tasked to select someone to fill a role even knew what the role was.
