The interviewer asked me to explain some career transitions and employment gaps. (Pretty typical question for a military spouse to have to answer.) We reviewed each position on my resume and I explained each relocation, one at a time. I thought we had it covered but then she asked me to repeat why I moved so many times and we reviewed each transition once more. This time, I explained that my husband's job in the military required us to move but he had recently retired and it would no longer be an issue. The 3rd time she asked me to explain each transition, I let her know I was uncomfortable. After the 4th time, I told her I felt I had already addressed the issue to the best of my ability and would prefer to discuss the knowledge, skills, and abilities that qualified me for the job. (She had not yet asked me about my qualifications or job related experience.) I'm now a career coach for other military spouses and regularly use this experience as a worst case scenario when preparing them for interviews.
