I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Estée Lauder Companies (New York, NY) in Jul 2012
Interview
Their staffing team needs some remedial training in communication skills.
I had a phone screen interview with a recruiter in month 1, then 2 office interviews in month 2, then 1 office interview in month 3, then a 2.5 hour phone-based personality test in month 3, and then nothing...
I followed up several times via email and phone, I never heard from them again. Actually, I did hear from a 2nd recruiter about a completely different job. This tells me that they don't even communicate internally so I can't be surprised that they are so inconsiderate to their prospective candidates.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Nothing difficult, just unusual:
Tell me about your childhood.
Were you a close family?
Were you a happy family?
How many siblings do you have?
How was your relationship with your parents?
What do your parents do for a living?
How have your parents sacrificed for you?
When you were 10 years old, did you sell anything?
I have a list of 100+ questions they asked and these were the most surprising. The rest are situational and behavioral-based.
5 rounds of interviews with behavioral questions and hypothetical scenarios to assess leadership skills and decision making approach. The last round with the hiring manager’s boss was considered difficult as she grilled on past experiences and how you would strategize to solve the issues at hands in the first 30 days.

The process is just as long as you would expect for a mid to high level corporate job. Phone screening, manager zoom call, 2nd manager call, executive zoom call, offer. Every interviewer had a nice personality so it didn’t feel dreadful.
