My answer essentially was “no”, but I explained that I had the opportunity to prepare staff for external audits on multiple occasions. This included my review and interpretation of the auditor’s requests, communicating it to the team and preparing and presenting the artifacts for submission as evidence. However, I stated honestly that as familiar as I am with the audit process, I did not actually execute a formal audit. They indicated satisfaction with my answer and expressed interest to hear more about it and my role interfacing with the auditor. To me this was a striking example that demonstrated Schellman’s sentiment and values. In my opinion they were not looking to check the box "Did candidate conduct audit? Yes/No" – Rather they accepted the answer, evaluated it to determine if it reflected potential for achieving the requirements of the role. Ultimately, they came across as being realistic and calculated, they knew what they were looking for and were happy to hear me out.
