How do you work under high pressure/stress situations? Give us an example
Anonymous
I handle high-pressure situations by staying calm, organized, and solution-focused. In my experience, pressure is often part of communication work—especially during emergencies or time-sensitive campaigns. For example, when I was with the ICRC in Myitkyina, there were times we had to quickly develop communication materials in response to sudden events or security incidents. In those moments, I would break down the tasks, prioritize what’s most urgent, and coordinate closely with the team to make sure everyone knew their role. I also kept communication open with management to adjust expectations or flag any support we needed. Personally, I stay grounded by sticking to a clear process, managing my time well, and focusing on the outcome rather than the stress. I also believe in self-care and supporting each other as a team—sometimes just checking in with a colleague can help reduce pressure for both of us. In short, I perform well under pressure because I’ve learned to stay composed, adapt quickly, and maintain a strong focus on quality and responsibility—especially when the work has a direct impact on children and communities.
