I was caught off guard by how direct this question was. I sort of skirted it at first by saying that I was compensated by various things and the position was remote, so I was paid X amount. I asked what was the pay rate for the position I was interviewing for, and she said she couldn't be specific but said my last pay was in range. It seemed a little direct.
