First, I would end the difficult conversation with the coworker and approach them at another time when we have calmed down. I would talk to them about it and see if we can reach a resolution between ourselves. I would detail what was said in an email to my supervisor for awareness and to document the incident. If it was not resolved after that conversation, I would refer to my supervisor and HR as necessary.
