Imagine you have a website with a poorly performing payment processor that you cannot remove / replace. It is dropping 25% of credit card transactions. What can you do to improve the checkout performance of this website?

If you cannot replace the system then think about it from a User Experience point of view. So just show the customer a "Thank you, your order has been received. Will send you an email once it has been processed." Similar to how Amazon and most e-commerce site do it now.
