Modeling question: Create a model, with the appropriate classes, for a family.

My initial answer was fairly simple (two 'parents' per person, optional spouse, list of zero to many children). This was bad. After much discussion. I believe more of the purpose of this question was to discuss the complexities of the system in being expressed in a simple model. Example: step parents? step children? half siblings?
