Well first, the functions were already written out so it was a trick question. You just needed to call the functions and add exclusions for the special characters. I have a feeling if I asked one of them about a real searching or sorting algo they wouldn't know what was going on. Furthermore, the technology listed on the job description is not was is tested on.
