I was approached by AKQA’s hiring manager directly for a senior PM position, we had a phone call interview about my experience and my ideal next role, then she talked me through about the role at AKQA and specific a requirement for the project, that it was to travel to a ’ X ‘country on regular basis. I said I would give it a thought and get back to her, as I was not keen to travel to those parts of the world…. So I followed it up with a email declining the position, but said if there were any other openings for a PM role I would be very interested and they should let me know as I was keen to work at AKQA. She responded saying they were currently focusing on filling this position first, Surprisingly a few weeks later, I was told by the hiring agent that there was PM role but it was less challenging then my current experience, I was very excited that they still wanted to see me after my first decline, I told her I would be willing to consider if the role was suitable, so they did invite me for a face to face interview. On the day of the interview she sends me an updated JD and writes I would be potentially working on the client we talked about last time as well. As I was keen to work with AKQA, I accepted the meeting request and I went over for the interview with an open mind, assuming they know how I felt about the last client’s travel requirement etc . Interview went well with the project director and a senior PM , it lasted over an hour, with them asking me all the standard questions. When I was asked if I had any questions, I of course wanted to know what clients I would be potentially be working on? But they were not willing to disclose that and said various different clients, when I asked them if they knew about my conversation with the hiring manager about my desire not travel for the client she had referred to, they were surprised and said they had no idea about that and asked what else I was told. We parted our ways and said our cordial goodbyes. The next thing I know two days later the hiring agent called me to say they were not going ahead with recruiting me as my level experience did not match the role and I lacked attention to detail as my CV had typo errors. I thanked her for her feedback, saying, I thought it had gone well . They need to have better hiring system in place and more transparency about clients and the work. It seems like they are not concerned with the applicant’s experience more a need to fill in the role where there is gap. When I checked my CV , it had maybe one typo error, nothing major …. I am not convinced that was the reason why they declined to make me an offer……..I had four other interviews lined up so I was not to concerned but I am glad they did not hire me as I would have been offered a position and salary much lower than my current role and I would have been demoralised and miserable
