Test Estimation: I involved in ROM(Rough Order Magnitude estimation),which is basically done in the initiation phase of the project depending on high level scope/requirement. During the planning stage of project I have created estimation in two ways depending on project needs. 1. WBS (Work Break Down structure)-Where I break down the whole requirement into the smallest independent units/functionality and estimate effort/time w.r.t each unit and add buffer timing to it for meetings,issue resolution etc. 2.Test Point/Requirement Ponit Estimation- I derived/estimated no of Test Scenarios and Test cases from requirement.I have to set productivity of Test Scenario and Test case design as well as productivity of Test case execution.During setting productivity I consider historical data of past projects,complexity of the current project. Lets say the I set productivity for Test Case design as 0.6(5 TC/8 hours) for requirement of medium complexity. So if my total no of estimated TC is 100,then time required to design total TC is 60 hrs(0.6*100). Estimated time required for test case design is 70 hrs(i.e. 60 hrs+10 hrs of buffer). 10 hrs is just for an example. In the same fashion we have to estimate effort for creation of Test Strategy,Test Planning,Test Designing,Test Execution,Test Report/closure. The sum of all will give the final estimation for your project.
