They roll up their sleeves and work alongside you regularly. This is how a leader shows team members how THEY do what they expect YOU to do and how they communicate with you what their vision is. You also get to see how passionate they are about the job. If they don't display these things and like working with you, they will be only marginally able to do the job they were hired to do.
