Being an ICU nurse during a pandemic. The number of patients we lost due to failure to rescue just because we could not don the proper PPE fast enough to get into the patient has got to be the greatest challenge of my entire nursing career. It challenged my skills and my own emotional strength. I never thought I'd have to helplessly look into any of my patient's eyes through a glass door (while donning PPE of course) with both of knowing I was never going to get to them fast enough to save them.
