STAFF ASSOCIATE II

Description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Experimental Therapeutics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), is seeking a Staff Associate II to support computational and software-based research activities within a laboratory research environment.

The Staff Associate II will operate and maintain software programs in support of lab projects, assist with research workflows, and contribute to ongoing research initiatives under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

This position requires strong technical expertise, initiative, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a dynamic research setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and update software programs supporting laboratory research projects.
• Carry out research projects with limited supervision from the Principal Investigator, including modifying and optimizing software workflows.
• Apply knowledge of machine learning and lab-specific transcriptomics analysis workflows to support research aims.
• Troubleshoot software bugs and update code to support evolving research workflows.
• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team to recommend appropriate computational workflows for specific lab projects.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of software workflows and system updates.
• Assist in orienting rotation students to laboratory software workflows and best practices.
• Contribute to publications and other research outputs under Principal Investigator supervision, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in machine learning or computational research and at least 4 years of related experience.
• The applicant should be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The applicant should also possess outstanding organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Machine learning experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as R and BASH.
• Basic familiarity with immunology, terminology and techniques.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative research environment.

Salary Range: $64,800 - $73,000
