Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of the position is to perform the day to day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, and/or the Director of Environmental Services, to assure that all laundry procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Functions

• Assure that laundry schedules are followed as closely as practical.
• Report all accident/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. (Note: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.)
• Assure that establish infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing laundry procedures.
• Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor.
• Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.

Laundry Functions

• Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
• Assure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
• Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
• Perform day to day laundry functions as assigned.
• Wash, dry and fold facility linen and resident personal clothing.
• Bring clean facility linen to linen closet.
• Assure residents personnel clothing is placed in proper resident’s room.
• Sweep and mop basement each shift.
• Throw away any worn linen and inform supervisor when linen supply is low.
• Clean dryer filters and lint around dryers each shift.
• Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed.

Working Conditions

May require lifting over 25 pounds. Subject to potential cuts, bruises and back injuries if safety precautions are not adhered to. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioning.

Education

An 8th grade education preferred.

Experience

None required. On the job training provided.
