We are seeking a Research Associate to support our investment sourcing efforts by identifying, organizing, and maintaining datasets of companies that fit specific investment criteria. This role is integral to our deal team, focusing on data research, company profiling, and market mapping to generate high-quality deal flow for our clients.

Role highlights

Data Collection & Management

• Prepare and manage datasets using proprietary tools
• Perform data scraping to gather business information
• Combine and conduct preliminary cleaning of datasets using our software
• Maintain project data organization and integrity
• Update project trackers to monitor progress and outcomes

AI & Technology Integration

• Develop effective AI tool prompts for company analysis
• Process datasets through AI tools and integrate outputs
• Refine datasets post-AI analysis for accuracy and relevance
• Identify and tier potential acquisition targets based on fit criteria
• Utilize automation tools to enhance research efficiency

Research & Analysis

• Conduct organic research using searches and specialized databases using company researchers
• Participate in research brainstorming sessions
• Perform quality control checks on researched companies
• Spot-check targets after AI tool output integration
• Segment industries and sub-sectors to identify high-value targets

Collaboration & Communication

• Coordinate with external contractors on research projects
• Participate in project calls with internal teams and clients
• Work closely with Senior Researchers and Company Researchers
• Support M&A Associates in complex research initiatives
• Collaborate with the contacts research team to align targeting efforts

• Experience: 1-3 years in research, data analysis, or market intelligence—preferably in private equity, M&A sourcing, market/equity research, or lead generation (preferred but not necessary)
• Finance, Business, Economics, or other Analytical Majors Preferred
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in data collection tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo.io, and experience with CRM systems
• Tech Savvy: Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies for data scraping, contact sourcing, and company evaluation; proficiency in learning new software platforms to build and efficiently utilize databases
• AI Prompting: Strong capability in crafting effective AI prompts with an understanding of AI limitations; ability to develop prompts for efficient company evaluation and implement fallback strategies when AI analysis is insufficient based on provided website content
• Deep Analytical Skills: Capacity to manually analyze company websites from each dataset to identify patterns for both fit and misfit companies; ability to recognize industry-specific indicators and translate these insights into effective AI prompts for efficient target selection
• Analytical Mindset: Capability to analyze industry sectors, trends, and company profiles
• Detail-Oriented: High attention to accuracy in data aggregation and management
• Creative Thinker: Ability to come up with failsafe plans in case the first method utilized to identify companies fails and think of alternate solutions creatively (out-of-the-box methods) to get the correct output.
