Job Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations within a manufacturing environment, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting strategic business decisions through financial analysis. This position manages the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, fixed assets, cost accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Controller partners with operations and leadership to improve financial performance while ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.

Duties

• Manage the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll oversight, and Fixed Assets.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Lead the monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Oversee cost accounting functions, including inventory valuation, standard costing, labor reporting, manufacturing variances, and cost analysis.
• Monitor inventory transactions, cycle counts, and physical inventories to ensure financial accuracy.
• Analyze manufacturing costs and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial projections while monitoring actual performance against budget.
• Provide financial analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs) to executive leadership.
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory agencies.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and monitor working capital.
• Prepare and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions.
• Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling and business analysis.
• Collaborate with Operations, Production, Purchasing, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to support business objectives.
• Evaluate and improve accounting systems, financial processes, and reporting capabilities.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Manufacturing accounting experience required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience with cost accounting and inventory management.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
