GENERAL: The primary function and focus of this Division is to conduct hands-on maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles and equipment scheduled for work through dispatch and the office manager in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

• Works closely with Fleet Manager to ensure a complimentary and cohesive process of vehicle and equipment repairs, rapid turnaround of vehicles and equipment, and quality assurance/ quality control procedures are in place and functioning properly.
• Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
• Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
• Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
• Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, or pressure gauges.
• Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
• Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
• Align front ends and suspension systems.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• This position is subject to the Carpet Tech’s Drug Free Workplace Policy which includes re-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards related to fleet operations.
• Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to analyze and explain records, reports, and procedures to others.
• Requires sound judgment regarding use of equipment, tools, material, and manpower.
• Ability to delegate task in order to complete all projects/tasks as they come due in a timely fashion with no waste of productive time.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

• All Carpet Tech owned tools and equipment are NOT to be removed from the warehouse for personal use for any employee.
• Any non-company owned vehicle/equipment will not be permitted to enter the shop without the approval and will be done only after hours.
• Skilled in operation of motorized vehicles for mechanical testing purposes, power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; mechanic's tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; personal computer; calculator; phone; mobile or portable radio.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Carpet Tech’s Fleet Maintenance Department is to always maintain productivity, during and after hours while the facility is open. Any employee that enters the Fleet Maintenance Department facility will be the responsibility of the Fleet Director, who is to either assign a task or remove them from the facility.
