The purpose of this position is to perform entry-level professional engineering work in support of City infrastructure, development review, and operational programs. Duties may include plan review, project coordination, data management, field observations, and technical analysis under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. Employees in this class support various City departments and may be assigned to work on projects involving transportation, stormwater, utilities, public works, planning, or related municipal functions.
Essential Functions:
Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
Reviews engineering plans, drawings, technical documents, and reports for compliance with City standards, applicable regulations, and sound engineering practices.
Understands and applies City Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Street Specifications, Floodplain Management Regulations, Stormwater Regulations, Water/Sewer/ Repurified Water Specification, Step System Specifications, Decentralized Sewer Treatment System Specifications and other local, state, and federal land development regulations to private and public development and construction projects.
Supports development review processes by evaluating site plans, plats, studies, and permits as assigned.
Collects, organizes, and maintains engineering data, records, and databases used for regulatory reporting asset management, planning, or departmental programs.
Performs field observations, inspections, and data collection to support engineering assessments and project monitoring.
Prepares technical comments, summaries, cost estimates, and other documents in support of departmental projects or reviews.
Coordinates with other City departments, outside agencies, consultants, and the public on engineering-related matters.
Supports departmental programs such as compliance reporting, infrastructure inventory, traffic studies, stormwater documentation, ADA transition planning, or other operational needs depending on assignment.
Receive, analyze, and respond to citizen and council requests under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
Assists in the design, analysis, and evaluation of public infrastructure and capital improvement projects, which may include roads, drainage, stormwater systems, utilities, traffic operations, or other municipal systems.
Additional Duties:
Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Perform light work involving walking, standing, or field tasks in varied weather and terrain.
Uses computers, tools, and equipment requiring hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license is required.
Fundamentals of Engineering certification (FE/EIT) is required.
