Griffin Residuals, LLC (“GR”) designs, develops, and operates regional and client biosolids processing facilities. GR is a sustainable solutions provider focused on converting waste materials into valuable resources through safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible biosolids management.
GR is hiring Komline Biosolids Dryer Operators / Dryer Technicians to support operations at Lake County Public Works’ Des Plaines River Water Reclamation Facility in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. This position will assist in the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance optimization of Lake County’s Komline-Sanderson 16W biosolids drying system and associated processing equipment.
Selected employees will receive training and certification support, including manufacturer-provided Komline-Sanderson dryer training and site-specific operational training. The role is ideal for mechanically inclined candidates with experience in wastewater treatment, industrial operations, maintenance, controls, equipment troubleshooting, or related technical fields.
This position supports GR’s mission to help municipalities improve biosolids management by converting dewatered wastewater solids into a Class A material suitable for beneficial use.
Duties
Operate, monitor, and support the Komline-Sanderson 16W biosolids dryer and related biosolids processing equipment.
Assist with startup, shutdown, adjustment, inspection, and routine operation of dryer systems, thermal fluid heating systems, conveyors, receiving systems, air-emission control equipment, cooling systems, and related components.
Use plant controls, SCADA interfaces, PLC-based systems, and monitoring tools to observe equipment performance and respond to operational changes or alarms.
Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and operational adjustments to support safe and efficient dryer performance.
Maintain operating logs, maintenance records, inspection forms, and performance data as directed by GR and Lake County Public Works.
Support sample collection, documentation, and coordination with Lake County Public Works personnel for compliance monitoring and routine testing.
Follow all site safety procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, housekeeping expectations, and emergency response protocols.
Coordinate with GR management, Lake County Public Works supervisors, remote monitoring personnel, and technical support teams to maintain continuous improvement of dryer operations.
Participate in manufacturer training, certification, site onboarding, and continuing operational training.
Skills and Qualifications
Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn, operate, and maintain industrial processing equipment.
Experience in wastewater treatment, biosolids processing, industrial maintenance, utilities, manufacturing, mechanical systems, pumps, conveyors, controls, or related fields preferred.
Ability to work with PLC/SCADA interfaces, control panels, sensors, alarms, and electronic monitoring systems.
Comfortable performing inspections, maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, adjustments, and basic repairs on mechanical and process equipment.
Ability to follow written procedures, maintain accurate logs, and perform basic math for operational readings and reporting.
Strong attention to safety, environmental compliance, and proper equipment operation.
Ability to work as part of a team with client personnel, supervisors, and technical support staff.
Willingness to complete Komline-Sanderson manufacturer training and GR/Lake County site-specific training.
Prior wastewater license, industrial operator experience, mechanical maintenance background, or biosolids experience is helpful but not required for qualified candidates willing to train.
