JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and reading of water utility meters; coordinating technical work involving installation, maintenance, testing, and technical support of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) components; as well as overseeing the installation and testing of personal computer systems, network systems, and communications equipment utilized by the organization.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Coordinates, organizes, assigns, and supervises the daily operations and productivity of AMI/IT Field Technicians; trains, evaluates, coaches, and supports personnel to promote effective job performance and professional development.
• Provides front-line IT support across multiple locations by troubleshooting Windows PCs, laptops, thin clients, Remote Desktop sessions (RDP, RMM), login issues, printers, mobile devices, peripherals, network connectivity, IP configuration, and VPN issues.
• Investigates recurring technical issues, analyzes operational shortcomings within the organization’s IT infrastructure, identifies root causes, and coordinates with vendors and Enterprise Applications staff to implement process improvements and validate solutions.
• Resolves customer concerns related to meter readings and billing discrepancies by troubleshooting defective meters, identifying malfunctions, tampering, or unauthorized connections, and coordinating corrections with Customer Service and Billing staff.
• Sets, enforces, and monitors policies, procedures, and security standards for computer systems, data processing, user devices, camera systems, badge access systems, and related security programs.
• Configures, deploys, maintains, and manages workstations, user accounts, devices, and system access across Windows, Active Directory, and Office 365 environments, including onboarding and offboarding employees and contractors.
• Conducts inspections of IT equipment and workstations to ensure operational readiness; oversees maintenance, repair, replacement, software updates, patch management, and lifecycle management of end-user devices.
• Ensures availability of hardware, software, tools, and critical metering equipment by maintaining inventory records, tracking assets, overseeing operations, and preparing orders for shortages and replacements.
• Documents service requests, technical work performed, inventory transactions, and support activities accurately within the ticketing and asset management systems.
• Maintains assigned vehicles, equipment, and related tools in proper operating condition.
• Oversees lifecycle management of end-user devices including procurement, deployment, maintenance, refresh programs, and retirement of devices and software.
• Assigns routes and monitors work orders for AMI Field Technicians to ensure timely completion of meter installations, repairs, reads, and maintenance.
• Assists with hands-on work in the field including meter replacements, shut-offs, reconnects, and emergency response during service interruptions.
• Operates utility vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment necessary for meter maintenance and IT field operations.
• Monitors AMI system performance, analyzes meter reading data, and investigates irregular consumption patterns or communication failures.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

• The work consists of supervisory and technical duties. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to supervise and perform technical duties in the reading and maintenance of utility meters. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective recording of water usage data and the accurate billing of customers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
• The work is typically performed in an office, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over AMI/IT Field Technicians (4).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Pay: $26.15 - $29.42 per hour
