About the Opportunity
The Cloud Systems Engineer IV will lead the modernization of software delivery and cloud operations by implementing enterprise DevSecOps practices, automated infrastructure solutions, and secure cloud-native platforms in a remote and on-site environment. Success in this role is measured by the ability to streamline software deployments, improve system reliability and resiliency, reduce operational risk through automation, and maintain compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements. This role requires participation in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend work to support mission-critical systems and operational needs.
In this role, the Cloud Systems Engineer IV will serve as a technical leader driving GitLab CI/CD excellence, cloud transformation initiatives, Kubernetes platform operations, and continuous improvement efforts that enable mission-critical systems to operate efficiently, securely, and at scale.
What You Will Do in This Role
The Cloud Systems Engineer IV serves as a technical leader, advancing cloud modernization, DevSecOps automation, CI/CD engineering, and platform operations to deliver secure, resilient, and efficient cloud-native solutions.
Responsibilities include:

Serve as the primary GitLab administrator, developing and optimizing enterprise CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps workflows, and secure software delivery processes.

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation solutions using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Python, Bash, PowerShell, and related tools.

Lead migrations from legacy and on-premises systems to containerized, serverless, and cloud-native architectures using Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, and AWS.

Implement GitOps practices (Argo CD, Flux), advanced deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling updates, traffic shaping, rollback), and automated release management capabilities.

Administer Kubernetes, OpenShift, container platforms, registries, repositories, admission controls, security policies, and enterprise secrets management solutions.

Integrate DevSecOps security controls, including SAST, DAST, SCA, container vulnerability scanning, compliance validation, and Policy-as-Code aligned with FISMA, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and federal cybersecurity requirements.

Administer and optimize AWS cloud services and infrastructure for performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.

Design and maintain observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, health verification, and recovery solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch, and related platforms.

Support cybersecurity assessments, audits, continuous monitoring, compliance remediation, and operational resiliency efforts.

Evaluate emerging cloud, automation, DevSecOps, and platform engineering technologies, and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and implementation guides.
What You Will Bring
Required qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.

7+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or CI/CD engineering roles, including 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise CI/CD pipelines.

Strong hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, Git-based workflows, and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy.

Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), and AWS cloud services and cloud-native architectures.

Experience supporting FISMA Moderate or High environments, or similar regulated systems.

Strong understanding of networking, IAM, compute, storage, databases, and cloud security fundamentals.
Preferred qualifications

Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, enterprise Kubernetes platforms, and GitOps solutions such as Argo CD or Flux.

Experience with advanced deployment strategies including blue/green, canary, and progressive delivery models.

Experience implementing DevSecOps tools and practices, including SAST, DAST, SCA, container security scanning, enterprise secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), and Policy-as-Code (OPA or similar).

Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and CloudWatch.

Experience with AWS GovCloud, NOAA, NESDIS, NASA, or other federal cloud environments.

Experience supporting platform engineering initiatives, service mesh technologies, advanced Kubernetes networking, HPC, machine learning, or large-scale data processing environments.

AWS, Kubernetes (CKA), Terraform, or related cloud certifications.
