Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking a forward-thinking and mission-driven Computer Technology Teacher to join our academic team. This role is focused on instructing students in Computer Science and Cybersecurity, equipping them with the technical proficiency and ethical framework necessary to navigate a rapidly evolving digital landscape. We expect instruction to emphasize computational thinking, problem-solving, and the Academy’s broader goals of developing young men and women of character and leadership. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between theory and practice, preparing students for industry certifications, and future careers in technology and national security.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
● Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in Computer Science, coding fundamentals, and Cybersecurity principles.
● Facilitate project-based learning where students build software, secure networks, or analyze cyber threats in a controlled "sandbox" environment.
● Integrate ethics and digital citizenship into the curriculum, emphasizing the responsible use of technology in alignment with Academy values.
● Differentiate instruction to support students ranging from tech enthusiasts to those new to digital literacy.
● Stay current with industry trends, ensuring that classroom content reflects modern cybersecurity threats and emerging technologies.
Student Support & Classroom Environment
● Establish a positive, structured classroom culture that encourages logic, persistence, and collaborative troubleshooting.
● Maintain high expectations for student conduct, specifically regarding the ethical use of school networks and technology resources.
● Provide individualized support, helping students prepare for industry-recognized certifications
● Collaborate with the IT department and academic staff to ensure a secure and functional learning environment.
Professional Collaboration & Growth
● Participate in regular faculty meetings, professional development, and Academy-wide events.
● Communicate proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and technical achievements.
● Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives, such as integrating technology with mathematics or history (e.g., the history of cryptography).
● Support the Academy’s mission by modeling integrity, professionalism, and a disciplined approach to technical mastery.
Qualifications
Required:
● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
● Proficiency in at least one major programming language and a strong understanding of networking fundamentals.
● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical jargon into accessible lessons.
● A commitment to ethical standards and the ability to teach "White Hat" hacking principles responsibly.
● A completed apprenticeship or teaching experience is recommended.
Preferred:
● Professional certifications
● Teaching experience in a high school or vocational setting.
● Willingness to lead extracurricular tech initiatives, such as a CyberPatriot team, or eSports program.
Pay: $36,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
