As needed, the Humphrey School hires lecturers and adjunct faculty to teach courses which supplement graduate faculty offerings and/or expertise of the graduate faculty. These appointments have no research or publication responsibilities but may assist with service-related teaching duties.

Lecturers provide classroom teaching for courses that supplement the faculty offerings and/or expertise of the faculty. The lecturer also provides a source of classroom substitute instruction. The title may be used for credit and non-credit courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. It is not normally expected that persons in this classification would be expected to fulfill the other missions of the University. Service to the unit, college, or campus may be expected.

Responsibilities may include:

• Developing courses
• Delivering high-quality teaching to students
• Developing assessment measures (e.g., exams, quizzes, etc.) and providing students with timely feedback and evaluation
• Providing accessibility to students via office hours, UMN email account, etc.
• Continuing personal growth within the profession, keeping current with the field, and broadening knowledge and expertise
