The Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) supports and celebrates students' unique experiences, backgrounds, communities, and identities. Through a variety of programs, events, and campus-wide collaborations, we provide holistic support to help students achieve their academic goals while developing the skills and perspectives necessary for success in college and beyond. These initiatives support U-M's ongoing commitment to nurturing an intellectually and culturally diverse campus. We accomplish this through direct student service delivery. These services include success coaching, peer mentorship, student organization advising, student leadership development, and grant funding for student organizations and programs. The grant funding promotes academic and multicultural programming.
OAMI leads important university-wide multicultural programs. These programs include the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium and the Native American Student Association Powwow. They also provide gateway services for first-generation and DACA/undocumented students. Additionally, they coordinate eight annual cultural graduation celebration ceremonies.
