Decision Scientist – Fulfillment Analytics
As the Decision Scientist - Fulfillment Analytics you will contribute to the design of analytical solutions that solve meaningful fulfillment problems and ensure our models translate into real-world impact. You'll help translate business questions into analytical approaches and partner with data scientists and software engineers to deliver impactful solutions. Successful candidates bring strong problem-framing, analytical, and collaboration skills. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning complex operational challenges into durable analytical solutions.
This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work some days at our Best Buy office in Richfield, Minnesota, and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
What you’ll do
Participate in scoping conversations to define analytical problems and solution approaches in the order fulfillment domain.
Conduct exploratory, statistical, or causal analyses to answer business questions.
Validate assumptions, interpret model outputs, and contribute to durable analytical solutions.
Define analytical data requirements and partner with platform and engineering teams to develop scalable data assets that support decision-making.
Evaluate data sourcing, integration, and governance options to enable secure and sustainable analytical solutions.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to prototype analytical solutions aligned to operational priorities.
Basic qualifications
Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, the physical sciences, computer science, or similar field with quantitative rigor.
Ability to apply foundational statistics (e.g., regression, hypothesis testing) to business questions.
2+ years of experience applying analytical techniques to answer business questions or scientific questions.
2+ years of experience in retail, analytics, business, or related area.
2+ years of experience writing SQL and using Python, R, or a similar tool to query and transform data, conduct analysis, and build reproducible workflows.
Experience communicating complex ideas across technical and business audiences.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in fulfillment, supply chain, logistics, or related business domains.
Familiarity with statistical modeling, forecasting, optimization, or econometric techniques.
Experience contributing to analytical projects.
Proficiency with cloud-based analytics platforms (e.g., GCP, BigQuery, data warehouses).
Experience identifying, validating, and leveraging appropriate data assets, including building data preparation and ETL workflows to support analytical use cases.
Experience using visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Power BI, Tableau) to communicate insights.
