The D. E. Shaw group seeks talented, intellectually curious individuals to join our Rotational Associates Program. Rotational associates collaborate on challenging, meaningful projects while rotating through three departments over the course of 12 months at the firm. The program is designed to provide associates with broad exposure to the firm’s activities while they receive coaching and mentoring in key areas including financial modeling, project management, and quantitative and qualitative research from accomplished colleagues with wide-ranging academic, professional, and personal backgrounds. Associates have gone on to manage investment portfolios and make other significant contributions at the firm. This program offers the opportunity to be part of a collegial, collaborative, and engaging working environment.
What you’ll do day-to-day
You’ll use your current strengths to innovate and make recommendations that impact the way we invest and operate, and you’ll build new skills that help shape the course of your career. You’ll work on a variety of projects like evaluating investment opportunities on our Global Macro desk, assessing the unique technological features of and landscape for surgical robots for our Fundamental Equities group, or researching whether or not to start an options market-making business as part of the Corporate Development team.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or higher in any academic field. We welcome applicants from all professions; no previous finance knowledge or experience is required. Past rotational associates have had backgrounds in economics, engineering, history, law, natural sciences, and philosophy before joining the firm.
Accomplished and creative critical thinkers with an interest in finance, a highly analytical mindset, and a desire to learn and take on a new challenge will excel in this role.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $145,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
