Position Title: Project Estimator/ Engineer
Location: Columbus, OH
Duration: Contract to hire - 4 months
Pay: $75-95 based on exp
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Estimates are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Required documentation, client profiles, records, reports, and files are organized, complete, accurate, up-to-date, and timely.
2. Professional business relations exist with customers (external & internal). Customer assistance, technical assistance, questions, problems, and information needs are resolved courteously, effectively, and promptly.
3. Effective working relations and coordination exist with Company personnel. Information & trend reports are obtained and conveyed timely. Ensure technical problems, customer product needs, and sales leads are appropriately referred.
4. Estimating
- Performs Accurate and Efficient Take Offs (Prints & Specs to Spreadsheet).
- Creates accurate Bill of Material and issues to Vendors for Pricing early in the estimate cycle (Including Description, Part#, Quantity).
- Accurately enters material and subcontractor pricing into Bidsheet.
- Accurately accounts for all labor functions, horizontal, backbone, subs in Bidsheet.
- Accurately completes all additional information on Bidsheet to facilitate efficient review (Travel, Title, Assumptions, Subcontractor, Etc.).
- Takes ownership of the Quality of the completed Bidsheet, prior to review with supervisor for roll up accuracy (overview of materials by line item, and labor, and extended & roll up totals).
- Takes ownership of the Estimating Function by organizing and improving bidsheet for quick, easy, and thorough reviews.
- Assist Sales in providing accurate cost estimates in a timely fashion.
- Assist Sales in providing accurate SOW / Service Order in a timely fashion, when requested.
- Attend the required sales meetings and walk throughs with Account Executive.
- Maintains a proper organization of files, including e-mail, blueprints and RFP materials.
- Maintains schedule for meetings and walk throughs.
- Demonstrate good judgment and reasoning when investigating and solving problems.
- Proactively keeps abreast with latest developments in cabling technologies, hardware, software, firmware, computer assisted design, system design methodologies, new vendors offering and all other upcoming datacom technologies.
- Interprets and shares with colleagues any and all new technological trends he identifies in the market place, inside vendors R&D departments, literature, networking, trade shows, etc.
- Has a deep knowledge of the bidsheet and the project and all related impacts at the time of bid review, and is organized with supporting documentation readily available.
- Brings to the attention of Supervisor and Bid Review Team any and all significant project risks so they can be evaluated by the entire Bid Review Team.
Documentation & Closeout Specialist
Review and become familiar with all projects and related documentation required for accurate and appropriate Closeout.
- Review and become familiar with job drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Visits selected job sites when requested for technical assistance or punch list.
- Complete, accurate and timely closeout of projects including work orders, change orders, test documentation, as-built CAD drawings, quality control and job hours.
- Responsible for accuracy and completeness of final documentation (test results, CAD, floor plan, warranties, etc.) and for its delivery to the customer.
- Takes ownership of all projects for closeout and documentation in accordance with scope of work provided to client and coordinates schedule with project closeout to stay proactive and ahead of the game.
- Takes ownership of the final storage and archiving of the closeout documents, warranties, etc. on the network and for their backup for easy access in future.
Assumes responsibility for providing effective sales and marketing support.
- Ensures that sales leads and customer needs are appropriately referred and followed up.
- Provides input on new products to research and development personnel.
- Provides technical sales support for representatives as needed.
- Develops and presents technical training as required.
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Company personnel and management.
- Assists and supports related departments as required.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns.
- Attends and participates in meetings as required.
- Completes reports, records, and other documentation as required.
- 100% of projects accurately closed out within 24-72 hours of completion.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Two-year post secondary education preferred, HS Diploma or equivalent required.
- BICSI Certification preferred.
- RCDD required.
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA and Company standards.
- Knowledge of NEC and other related industry code.
- Thorough understanding of service practices.
- OSHA 30 preferred, 10 required.
- Microsoft Excel certified.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least 5 years of estimating experience is preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication and public relations abilities.
- Ability to train and supervise others.
- Able to use PC, calculator, telephone, and related business equipment.

- Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
FINE, ACUTE VISUAL ABILITIES:
- Fine visual acuity with the ability to inspect closely or to assemble small parts; color vision; or depth perception and/or field of vision.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
- Medium work; exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, exposure to electrical current, and moving machinery.
- Worker may be subject to other construction and client site hazards.
MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.
- Able to interpret various instructions.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:
- Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding; subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; the four basic arithmetic operations with money; and operations with units such as inch, foot, yard; ounce, and pound (or their metric counterparts).
LANGUAGE ABILITY:
- Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
