Job Purpose
The Estimator reports to the VP of Estimating and contributes to the overall success of the organization by assisting with preparation of cost estimates for assigned projects, participation / responsibility for the preparation of complete bid packages, participating in bid reviews, participation in post-bid estimate analysis and post project award support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Have a thorough knowledge of the plans, specifications, and all bid documents related to assigned estimates.
- Review and understand Agency Specifications, Standard Plans and Details applicable to assigned estimates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits and convey all information and photos obtained to the estimating team.
- Perform manual and/or electronic quantity take-offs from project plans, specifications, and standard details.
- Prepare summary review of individual take-off quantities and compare them to provided bid quantities.
- Participate in post-take-off handoff meetings and provide detailed review of quantity take-off’s performed by others.
- Document plan revisions, document discrepancies and assist in preparing RFI questions for review by the estimating team and submission to the client.
- Review, update and distribute changes to bid scopes / documents with additional bidding information (RFI’s, Addendum, Plan updates, etc.) via RFP software and Emails to prospective Subcontractors and Suppliers.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS HeavyBid Software.
- Present prepared estimate to Senior Estimator / VP of Estimating for review to ensure accuracy, completeness and participate in estimate reviews to further develop estimating skills and refine prepared estimates.
- Assist with the preparation of formal Bid Forms, Statement of Qualifications and Bid Submission documents.
- Prepare detailed bid proposal / cover letters to be submitted to Clients.
- Ensure that all relevant bid documents are submitted before the bid deadlines.
- Develop relationships and communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness.
- Mentor and Train Senior Estimating Engineers and Estimating Engineers.
- Assisting in Post Bid Award preparations and Hand-off to Procurement Team
- Assisting in Post Bid Award Bid Hand-off preparations including Estimate Coding for HeavyJob, Subcontract summary for Contracts Team and participation in Estimating to Field Operations Hand-off meetings
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Heavy Civil / Underground Construction industry experience required; 2 years of previous Estimating experience preferred; a minimum of 5 years progressive experience in quantity take-off and/or equivalent combination of field experience.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter and can perform tasks with limited direction.
- Experience with infrastructure projects including subdivision, roadways, utilities, earthwork, and concrete structures
Pay Range: As listed, dependent upon experience.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
