Lead Business Analyst / Project Coordinator (Reinsurance)
Location: Hybrid job (8-12 days per month on site) in New York City
Position Type: 6-12+ month project
Position Overview
Are you a senior-level insurance professional who thrives at the intersection of strategic project leadership and hands-on business analysis? We are seeking an autonomous, forward-thinking Lead Business Analyst / Project Coordinator to play a pivotal role in a major, global Reinsurance Modernization Program.
This is not a traditional requirements-gathering role. Instead, it is a unique 50/50 hybrid position that blends:
- 50% Project & Reporting Leadership: Autonomously managing workstreams, driving coordination, tracking project milestones, and delivering critical status updates directly to executive sponsors and global leadership teams.
- 50% Senior Business Analysis: Facilitating stakeholder interviews, requirements elicitation, process documentation, and visual process mapping.
The ideal candidate operates closer to a Lead BA, Project Coordinator, or Junior Project Manager (without the formal project management ownership), and possesses deep, foundational expertise within Reinsurance operations.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Project Coordination (50%)
- Workstream Ownership: Lead specific project workstreams, ensuring the team successfully delivers against established project timelines and plans.

- Backlog & Metrics Management: Oversee the inventory of requirements, managing prioritization, and tracking clear metrics and delivery progress utilizing JIRA.
- Transition & Training: Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), query resolution, and user training sessions, ensuring a seamless future handover to Business As Usual (BAU) support teams and business users.
Senior Business Analysis (50%)
- Requirements Elicitation: Conduct interviews and workshops to elicit, analyze, and document comprehensive functional and technical requirements from senior-level internal and external stakeholders.
- Process Mapping: Develop clear visual process maps and "As-Is / To-Be" business workflow documentation.
- Technical Liaison: Translate complex business rules and requests into actionable requirements for the development and technical teams, ensuring alignment between business needs and end delivery.
- Quality & Control: Ensure draft reports and system modifications are thoroughly analyzed, designed, and tested prior to user validation, maintaining rigid version control across all project documentation.
Job RequirementsMandatory Qualifications
- Reinsurance Expertise: Proven experience working as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or Project Lead directly within Reinsurance operations, workflows, systems, or modernization programs. This is the primary non-negotiable requirement.

- Senior Business Analysis Acumen: 5+ years of dedicated experience in requirements elicitation, process documentation, and bridging the gap between business lines and IT teams.
- Proven Project Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading project workstreams, tracking milestones, managing stakeholder expectations, and delivering concise updates to executive sponsors.
- Technical Proficiency: Highly organized and proficient with JIRA and MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, and highly professional PowerPoint capabilities).
