Brief Job Description:

This position supports new product and new business development for organometallic technologies within PMC Organometallix.

• Conduct lab scale synthesis trials to support new product / process development for Thermolite and ADVASTAB Stabilizers
• Support the business in a Technical Service role with customer as needed. Responsibilities include product recommendations and processing support for organotin stabilizer product lines.
• Develop improvements to existing products for performance reasons or to reduce operating costs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lab Operations 40%

• Perform organotin synthesis and application testing lab experiments to support new product development
• Executing laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations.
• Development of new formulations and lab procedures/test methods as required.
• Recording all experimental data and test results accurately and in the specified format (written and/or electronic.)

New Product Development 45%

• Support the development of new and improved products, including strategic raw material exchanges.
• Support new product candidate Scale up through interfacing with Carrollton Process Technology group.
• Identify intercompany synergy opportunities for improved efficiency and costs for PMC operations. Champion these projects by securing appropriate resources with the business
• Incorporate any applicable environmental or sustainability initiatives.

Reporting 10%

• Summarize all project results and provide to Technical Service Director at the completion of each project
• Issue a weekly summary of lab activities
• Issue Call Reports for customer visits/calls and conferences

Safety 5%

Provide for a safe working environment by:

• Participate in all site safety meetings and/or trainings
• Ensure SDSs are on hand for all lab raw materials
• Maintain inventory of personal protective equipment.
• Ensure proper labeling and storage of all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Good oral and written communications skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work with diverse group of chemists, engineers, laboratory technicians, and plant operators
• Able to setup and maintain their work area and all necessary equipment.
• Use of statistical software for designed experiments including mixtures.
• Computer skills for processing data and project organizational skills
• Good problem-solving skills
• Work without close supervision, self-starter
• Time-Management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

The R&D Chemist work is split between Laboratory and office environments for research and report writing. Works in lab environment for making small scale batches and analyzing products. To lesser extent, Visits Carrollton, KY, manufacturing site for hands on training and Pilot Plant trials. Up to 10% travel required for internal and external meetings.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• BS or MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• 5+ years synthesis experience with organometallic compounds preferred
