Department Summary:
The production department is responsible for transforming raw materials into finished goods. This department manages the entire production process, from planning and scheduling to execution and quality control. Position Summary:
The Production Laboratory Technician performs testing, troubleshooting, calibration, verification, and validation of newly manufactured electronic products and subassemblies to ensure compliance with Radian Research's quality and performance standards. This position utilizes specialized electronic test and calibration equipment to diagnose circuit and component issues, perform incoming PCB inspections, validate product functionality, and document test results accurately. The technician also maintains and improves laboratory test equipment, analyzes product failures and repair trends, and collaborates with Engineering and Production to support continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing accurate, reliable products that exceed customer expectations while supporting Radian's core values of customer focus, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform unit troubleshooting, circuit testing, troubleshooting, and calibrations for newly built units using general and specialized electronic test and calibration equipment.
2. Perform incoming testing on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
3. Maintain, repair, develop and refine test equipment.
4. Perform product verification and validation testing.
5. Follow standard inspection, test, troubleshooting, calibration and measurement processes.
6. Complete and maintain associated records of inspections, tests, repairs, and calibrations in both paper and electronic form.
7. Monitor and analyze customer repairs to identify common failure mechanisms and communicate to management and the Engineering department.
8. Other duties assigned by Supervision or Management
Education:
Minimum Required: Technical Certificate or Associates Degree in Electrical / Electronics Technology or equivalent military ‘electronics technician’ training. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Experience:
1. 1-2 years in manufacturing operations
2. 1+ years in electro-mechanical troubleshooting
3. 1+ years in electronic test equipment usage
Knowledge of:
1. Electricity/Electronics applications
2. PCB manufacturing and failure analysis down to component level
3. Awareness of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage prevention in electronics
4. Problem solving techniques and Root Cause Analysis
5. Troubleshooting of electro-mechanical devices
6. General metrology, measurement systems, and calibration systems
7. Uncertainty components, management, determination, and reporting
8. Software and software applications
9. Computer usage and common word processing and spreadsheet programs
10. Safety in job performance
Skilled at:
1. Soldering (surface mount and through hole)
2. Electro-mechanical assembly operations
3. ESD awareness and damage prevention
4. Reading and interpreting schematics
5. Use of electronic test equipment – VOM, signal generator, etc.
6. Use of specialized electronic calibration equipment – calibration systems and environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, etc.
7. Use of troubleshooting tools and techniques
8. Technical mathematics
9. Common computer software for word processing and spreadsheet operations
