The Product Engineer 1 supports engineering execution for cable assemblies and products under the guidance of senior engineering staff. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in engineering documentation, cost estimating, and production floor support.
This position assists in developing build-ready drawings, routings and BOMs, supports cost estimation and quote development, and provides hands-on technical support to manufacturing operations to help resolve build issues, clarify documentation, and improve manufacturability.
The position works closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Operations, and suppliers to develop core skills toward full Product Engineer responsibilities.
Ideally, looking for candidates to start end of August, but we are flexible with the start date.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in developing and maintaining engineering drawings for cable assemblies; create build-ready 2D CAD documentation, including cut lengths, strip lengths, pinouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, interconnect drawings, and termination callouts, under senior engineer review
Learn and apply internal drawing standards, symbols, templates, and documentation practices
Support end-to-end engineering estimation and quoting for new and existing opportunities, including: Labor content and build assumptions, Components, consumables, and material selection
Partner with Sourcing and Product Management to help validate BOM structure, material options, alternates, and cost drivers
Support pricing accuracy by helping ensure drawings and BOMs reflect true manufacturing requirements
Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing operations on the production floor. Assist in resolving build issues by: Clarifying drawings and documentation, Supporting root-cause analysis for defects, rework, or build delays, Updating drawings, BOMs, and instructions as directed
Support NPI builds, pilot runs, and production ramp-ups as part of a project team
Help maintain accurate and revision-controlled BOMs aligned with drawings and build processes
Contribute to part rationalization, SKU reduction, and cost optimization through documentation accuracy and component standardization
Support the technical content of ECOs/ECNs related to drawings, BOMs, and documentation changes, under senior engineer guidance
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to clarify requirements and resolve technical issues
Assist with customer and supplier interface for drawing clarification, component selection, and documentation alignment

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related). 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships, co-ops, or academic project experience in electrical/cable systems, manufacturing, or product design preferred but not required.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations: A valid driver's license.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions with support from senior staff. Developing ability to interpret technical and business information across abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Applications Skills: Familiarity with or willingness to learn SAP MRP, ability to work in a Windows environment, to work with your department's business applications and with standard current computer applications. Working knowledge of MS Excel; exposure to MS Access a plus.
