Mechanical Engineer – Compressor Station Design
Freezer Engineering, LLC Location: Englewood, CO or Houston, TX (on-site/hybrid) Level: Mid-Senior
About Freezer Engineering
Freezer Engineering, LLC is a Colorado-based engineering firm specializing in modular skid-based process systems, compressor stations, industrial power distribution, instrumentation and controls, and medium voltage electrical solutions for oil, gas, and chemical industry clients. With offices in Englewood and Houston, we deliver turnkey engineering solutions for demanding upstream, midstream, and downstream applications.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with dedicated compressor station design experience to join our growing team. This role will support the design, specification, and integration of compression equipment and associated mechanical systems for midstream and upstream gas processing and transmission projects. The ideal candidate brings hands-on design ownership — not just field service, maintenance, or reliability experience — and is comfortable working across multidisciplinary skid-based project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and engineering for compressor station facilities, including reciprocating and centrifugal compressor packages, associated piping, coolers, separators, and auxiliary systems
- Develop and review compressor performance calculations, sizing, and selection in coordination with vendors and process engineering
- Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, datasheets, and scopes of supply for compressor packages and balance-of-plant equipment
- Support skid layout and integration with electrical, controls, and piping disciplines
- Review vendor drawings, GA drawings, and equipment submittals for compliance with project specifications and applicable codes (API 618, API 617, API 619, ASME B31.3, etc.)
- Participate in HAZOP, MOC, and constructability reviews as the mechanical discipline lead
- Support field commissioning and startup activities as needed
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure design intent is carried through to execution
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field)
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with direct compressor station design experience (natural gas compression, gathering, transmission, or processing facilities)
- Working knowledge of applicable compressor and piping codes/standards (API 618/617/619, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8 as applicable)
- Demonstrated experience with equipment sizing, specification writing, and vendor drawing review for rotating equipment
- Strong understanding of skid-based/modular facility design practices
- US Citizenship required
- Proficiency with standard mechanical design and analysis tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent; PV Elite or similar a plus)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface directly with clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a skid-based EPC or engineering consulting environment
- Experience with midstream gas gathering, gas processing, or transmission compression specifically (vs. general rotating equipment or reliability engineering)
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
- Health, dental, and vision benefits
- Collaborative, small-firm environment with direct client and ownership exposure
- Opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of oil, gas, and chemical industry projects
To Apply: Submit resume and cover letter to jfreezer@freezerengineering.com or through indeed. Please include specific project examples demonstrating hands-on compressor station design experience.
