The Cook- Kitchen Manager position is an excellent position for parents or guardians who would like to be home when their children get home from school! There are two options of hours for the Cook/ Kitchen Manager position:
7:00 am- 3:00 pm with no break (work straight through)
7:30 am- 3:30 pm with no break (work straight through)
or
7:00 am- 4:00 pm with an hour break
Earlier start can be discussed
Pay is based on experience and education.
As Cook/Kitchen Manager, your daily responsibilities are as follows;
Sunbeam Station utilizes different vendors to deliver food. Most of our food is heat and serve. No formal chef or food training is required before starting.
- Prepare and serve meals appropriate for each age group considering children's special dietary needs.
- Maintain and keep current a written record of children with special dietary needs and allergies.
- Must know or be willing to learn state guidelines for nutrition and portions of food required for childcare-age children. (OCDEL Regulations)
- Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean, sanitized, neat, free of clutter, and good order.
- Operate the necessary appliances according to safety instructions (ex// commercial dishwasher, oven, microwave, icemaker)
- Store food properly, according to the guidelines specified by the Board of Health.
- Follow general kitchen guidelines specified by the Board of Health, which makes periodic unannounced visits.
- Prepare the list of necessary food and supplies.
- Ensure the economical use of materials and supplies.
- Receive food orders, check, sign and date all invoices.
- Rotate stock and store appropriately.
- Wash, dry, and store kitchen utensils and dishes after meals and snacks.
- Change or adapt the menu if supplies are not present and record the change.
- Use initiative, judgment, and creativity in seasoning food, estimating amounts to be prepared, utilizing leftovers, and preparing attractive food according to state regulations.
- Maintain the health, welfare, and safety of each child.
- Plan a work schedule so that food production flows smoothly.
- Ensure that meals are prepared on schedule.
- Display respect for others, both children and adults.
- Adapt to changing situations, accepts constructive feedback, and implements appropriate action.
- Be flexible to the daily business demands of Sunbeam Station Child Care, inc., including scheduled working hours and kitchen assignments.
- Clean kitchen, storage areas, ovens, refrigerators, defrosting freezers, dishwasher, wiping spills, including sweeping, mop[ping, taking out the trash and recycling, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Be knowledgeable of and able to conduct emergency procedures including but not limited to: fire, tornados, hurricanes, chemical leaks, including lifting and carrying injured children.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Assistant Director.
Sunbeam Station will pay to have the applicant complete the ServSafe training and any necessary OCDEL training to complete the Cook/ Kitchen Manager position.
The Cook/ Kitchen Manager is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals for each age group at Sunbeam Station Child Care, Inc. The Kitchen Manager must work cooperatively with the other staff and develop positive relationships with the children's families, staff members, and Administration at Sunbeam Station Child Care, Inc., and the kitchen committee of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
