At Mainstream Engineering, innovation is more than a buzzword-it's the foundation of everything we do. As we continue to expand our advanced energy systems and power electronics capabilities, we are seeking a Technology Leader – Power Electronics to spearhead the development of next-generation power conversion technologies for demanding commercial, industrial, and defense applications.
This is a highly visible technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges, mentoring talented engineers, and bringing cutting-edge technologies from concept to production. You will lead the design and development of advanced power electronic systems while helping shape the strategic direction of our power electronics technology roadmap.
As a Technology Leader, you will serve as the technical expert and lead engineer for power electronics development efforts, including:
-
Lead the architecture, design, development, and testing of high-performance AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC power converters ranging from 1 kW to 150+ kW.
-
Drive the development of advanced motor drive systems operating from 10,000 RPM to over 150,000 RPM.
-
Develop and implement sophisticated digital control algorithms, digital filtering techniques, and closed-loop control strategies for power electronic systems.
-
Lead the design and testing of power stages, gate drivers, and sensor electronics utilizing state-of-the-art Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technologies.
-
Design, evaluate, and integrate high-power SiC and GaN power modules for advanced energy conversion applications.
-
Oversee the design, layout, fabrication, and validation of analog and mixed-signal printed circuit boards.
-
Develop embedded control systems using DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGA-based architectures.
-
Guide projects through the complete product lifecycle, from concept development and prototyping through testing, qualification, and production.
-
Provide technical mentorship to engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
-
Collaborate closely with mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and systems engineers to develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
-
Support business development activities by contributing technical expertise to proposal efforts and customer engagements.
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.3.
-
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience designing and developing power electronic systems.
-
Demonstrated experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting power conversion equipment at or above 100 kW.
-
Strong background in variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
-
Experience with power electronics design, simulation, laboratory testing, and system integration.
-
Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
-
U.S. Citizenship is required due to U.S. Government ITAR program restrictions.
-
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
-
Experience working with wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies including SiC and GaN devices.
-
Experience programming microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGA-based control systems.
-
Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice, or similar modeling and simulation tools.
-
Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, or serving as a subject matter expert.
-
Experience developing products for aerospace, defense, energy, or advanced industrial applications.
