As an ontologist at Semantic Arts, you will play a key role in helping clients organize, model, and access enterprise information through semantic technologies. You will collaborate with a skilled team of technical experts and focus on delivering meaningful data-centric solutions. Our team works on projects spanning multiple industries and domains. You will have priority placement on projects in the pharma and life sciences domain as long as they are available.
Working alongside other ontology consultants, you will take existing design artifacts and partner with subject matter experts to convert models into formal semantic expressions. Our clients span a variety of industries and sizes, including the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors. We maintain a collaborative team culture that values individual contributions at every level.
Requirements:
· A passion for information and knowledge modeling
· Training in ontology design and development through formal education or equivalent professional experience
· Experience in data modeling or related analytical skills
· Strong interpersonal communication skills, experience managing client, stakeholder, and internal interactions
· Experience in OWL, RDF/S, and SPARQL.
· A desire to learn new domains of knowledge in a fast-paced environment
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, knowledge management, engineering, philosophy, business, or similar
Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical Industry Requirements:
· Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working within the life sciences or the pharmaceutical industry, including roles in biotech, clinical research, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, or related functions
· Demonstrated knowledge of life sciences data standards and terminology, such as IDMP, MedDRA, SNOMED CT, FHIR, or equivalent frameworks commonly used in drug development or clinical data management
Nice to Have:
· Prior use or understanding of W3C semantic web standards
· General programming and particularly programming against triple stores
· Advanced academic degree preferred
· Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to life sciences data, including FDA, EMA, or ICH guidelines as they relate to data integrity and information management

Authorization:

Compensation:
Compensation for this position varies based on experience, billable utilization, and other factors. Entry level ontologists start around $70,000 USD annually and generally rise quickly, with the overall average being approximately $150,000 USD and about one third of consultants averaging more than $175,000 USD.
