Position Summary

The Freight and Logistics Coordinator oversees the timely, accurate, and cost-effective movement of inbound and outbound freight across The Griff Network. This position coordinates domestic and international shipments, carrier pickups and deliveries, freight documentation, shipment tracking, and communication with carriers, vendors, customers, and internal departments.

This role combines freight coordination with hands-on warehouse responsibilities. The Freight and Logistics Coordinator works closely with warehouse and production teams to confirm shipment details, stage materials, inspect outgoing freight, operate a forklift, and assist with loading and unloading activities as needed.

The ideal candidate has experience coordinating freight within a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment and is comfortable working in both an office and warehouse setting. Direct experience with forklift operation, shipping, receiving, material handling, and warehouse equipment is required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate inbound and outbound freight, including Small Package, Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, expedited, intermodal, and international ocean and air shipments.
• Schedule carrier pickups, deliveries, and interfacility transfers based on production schedules, material availability, warehouse capacity, customer requirements, and requested delivery dates.
• Operate a forklift to move, stage, load, unload, and organize raw materials, finished goods, pallets, roll goods, and other freight.
• Work directly with warehouse and production teams to verify that materials are available, properly identified, safely staged, and ready for shipment or transfer.
• Obtain and compare freight quotes and coordinate with carriers, freight brokers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, vendors, customers, and drivers.
• Prepare, review, and maintain Bills of Lading, packing slips, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, shipping logs, customs documentation, and other freight records.
• Verify shipment details, including addresses, quantities, weights, dimensions, freight classifications, pallet counts, packaging requirements, accessorial needs, and special handling instructions.
• Inspect outbound shipments to confirm that products, quantities, labels, packaging, and documentation are accurate before carrier pickup.
• Track shipments and communicate delays, shortages, damages, missed appointments, delivery concerns, and other transportation issues to internal teams and external partners.
• Ensure freight is properly packaged, labeled, wrapped, banded, secured, staged, and prepared for transportation, including assisting with pallets, skids, crates, and protective packaging.
• Maintain accurate freight, shipment, and inventory information within ERP, WMS, TMS, carrier portals, tracking systems, spreadsheets, and other logistics tools.
• Review freight invoices, accessorial charges, claims, carrier performance, and billing discrepancies while supporting shipping, receiving, inventory counts, warehouse safety, and other operational needs.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, transportation, operations, business, or a related field is a plus.
• Three to five years of freight, shipping, receiving, transportation, or logistics coordination experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment.
• Direct hands-on experience working in a warehouse, shipping, receiving, manufacturing, or loading dock environment is required.
• Previous forklift operating experience, a current forklift certification, and a valid driver’s license are required.
• Ability and willingness to regularly operate a forklift and assist with loading, unloading, shipment staging, material movement, and other warehouse activities.
• Experience coordinating Small Package, Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, expedited, and international ocean or air shipments.
• Knowledge of carrier scheduling, shipment tracking, freight classifications, accessorial services, delivery coordination, and freight cost review.
• Experience preparing and reviewing Bills of Lading, packing slips, commercial invoices, shipping logs, customs documentation, and other import or export records.
• Experience working directly with carriers, freight brokers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, drivers, vendors, customers, warehouse employees, and production teams.
• Experience inspecting, staging, securing, and preparing pallets, skids, crates, roll goods, or other industrial materials for shipment.
• Proficiency with ERP, WMS, TMS, carrier portals, inventory systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Epicor experience is a plus.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills with the ability to work effectively in both an office setting and an active warehouse environment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent movement between office, warehouse, shipping, receiving, loading dock, and production areas. The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch, and safely enter and exit forklift equipment throughout the workday.

The role includes regular forklift operation and hands-on support with shipment staging, inventory counts, pallet wrapping, banding, loading, unloading, and general warehouse organization. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push, pull, or move materials or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance or material-handling equipment as needed.

The employee must be able to work safely around forklifts, trucks, loading docks, industrial machinery, large material rolls, pallets, and other heavy materials. Compliance with all safety procedures and the use of required personal protective equipment are mandatory.
