Learning Specialist Position Responsibilities
- This position reports to the Director and Head of School and responsibilities include serving as a case manager for our students with diagnosed learning disabilities and as a consultant for faculty and students when learning issues arise
- Instruct courses at Tilden Preparatory School, including Executive Functioning, Study Support, Writing Skills, and additional classes as directed by the Heads of School and the Director.
- Review neuropsychological and psycho-educational evaluations and interpret findings for students, families, and teachers;
- Determine what accommodations, if any, the school will provide to support the student;
- Maintain and update Individual Student Support Plans for students at Tilden Prep who receive accommodations;
- Assist students to coordinate their accommodations and communicate these accommodations to teachers;
- Provide ongoing monitoring and support of students with learning differences throughout their time at Tilden Prep;
- Maintain discretion and keep confidential records and relevant documentation of students with learning differences;
- In collaboration with the Director and Heads of School, monitor and develop policies related to academic accommodations at Tilden Prep;
- Consult with individual faculty upon request, providing support as needed to teachers and mentors regarding the needs of specific students;
- Stay abreast of best practices in the field of learning differences to inform Tilden and make recommendations as needed;
- Apply on behalf of students for accommodations on standardized tests through the College Board and the ACT;
- Arrange for supervision and proctoring of standardized tests, when needed, and at times on weekends, for students who receive accommodations;
- Work closely with the Heads of School and Department Heads to support the professional growth of the faculty in the area of learning, neurodiversity, and adolescent brain development;
- Identify and instruct students in the use of appropriate assistive technologies, such as smart pens, apps, speech-to-text or text-to-speech software, and other resources;
- Collaborate with teachers to help them understand and apply metacognitive strategies for enhancing student learning
- Be available to Tilden students for direct consultation regarding study skills, test taking, organization, and time management;
- Maintain physical and digital resources related to learning, neuroscience, and learning differences for student information
- Support the maintenance of student learning profiles at the beginning of the school year and during the year for transfers
- Maintain SST (Student Support Team) tracking spreadsheets and related online/hard copy student folders at the beginning of the school year
- Support admissions, as requested, with transfer applicant assessments and reading through students’ admissions files to provide additional perspective
- Periodically provide 10-15 minute professional development talks at staff meetings
- As requested, conduct in-class observations for students in the SST process and attend parent meetings for those students as needed.
- Fulfill other duties as specified by the Director or Heads of School

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
