Position Title: Fleet & Equipment Manager
FSLA Status: Exempt
Location: 65500 Lincoln Street, Mecca, CA
Pay Range: $ 75,000-$85,000 annually
Position Overview: The Fleet & Equipment Manager is responsible for developing and managing the company's fleet and equipment maintenance program to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations across Bagdasarian's ranches and packing facilities. This position oversees preventive maintenance planning, equipment lifecycle management, vendor relationships, regulatory compliance, and maintenance budgeting for company vehicles, agricultural equipment, forklifts, trailers, and other mobile assets.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Develop, implement, and manage a preventive maintenance program for company vehicles, trailers, forklifts, tractors, agricultural equipment, and other mobile assets.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of fleet and equipment assets, including maintenance history, registrations, inspections, and warranties.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
- Monitor equipment condition and recommend replacement or major repairs based on lifecycle and operating costs.
- Assist with evaluating and purchasing new vehicles and equipment.
Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance with internal departments and outside vendors.
- Prioritize repairs based on operational needs and equipment availability.
- Monitor work quality and ensure repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Maintain maintenance schedules and ensure preventive maintenance is completed on time.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Assist in developing and managing the annual fleet maintenance budget.
- Review maintenance expenses and identify opportunities to reduce operating costs.
- Obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and manage relationships with vendors, repair facilities, and equipment suppliers.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure quality service and value.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with DOT requirements, vehicle registrations, inspections, permits, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate fleet documentation and records.
- Support accident investigations by coordinating vehicle inspections, repair documentation, and corrective actions.
- Promote safe fleet operations through routine inspections and maintenance practices.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare reports related to maintenance activities, equipment utilization, repair costs, and fleet performance.
- Analyze maintenance trends and recommend process improvements that increase reliability, efficiency, and equipment lifespan.
- Collaborate with leadership to support long-term fleet planning and capital equipment replacement.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Fleet Management, Automotive Technology, Agriculture, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management, equipment maintenance, maintenance coordination, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of fleet management principles and preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience coordinating maintenance for commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and fleet compliance requirements.
- Experience managing vendors, service providers, and maintenance contracts.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with fleet management or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly works in both office and outdoor environments, including ranches, packing facilities, maintenance shops, and equipment yards.
- Frequently walks on uneven terrain and around operating equipment.
- Occasionally lifts or moves materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

- Minimize equipment downtime through effective preventive maintenance planning.
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments and external service providers.
- Manage maintenance costs while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability, efficiency, and asset utilization.
