Position Summary

The Director of Accounts Payable is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the accounts payable strategy, execution, controls, and operations across a multi-entity service platform. This role ensures the timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and expense reporting while providing strategic leadership, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

The Director of Accounts Payable partners closely with Finance and Operations to maintain liquidity discipline, support growth, enable efficient and accurate financial close processes, and deliver high-quality processing and reporting.

This role is accountable for transforming the Accounts Payable function from a manual operation into an automated, control-driven, and analytics-enabled environment. The Director ensures that vendor obligations are paid accurately and on time, AP balances are clean and auditable, payment risk is minimized, and processes scale effectively with growth, acquisitions, and increasing transaction complexity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Lead and develop a high-performing AP team — Hire, train, mentor, and manage AP staff and leadership; establish performance standards, accountability, career development paths, and a culture of ownership, urgency, accuracy, and service excellence.
• Define and own the AP strategy, operating model, and automation roadmap — Own end-to-end AP strategy across all entities; prioritize standardization of processes, policies, approval matrices, controls, and vendor data to enable maximum automation and scalability.
• Oversee end-to-end AP operations with a focus on efficiency and controls — Manage high-volume invoice processing, payment disbursements, expense reimbursements, and vendor setup/maintenance; ensure strong segregation of duties, fraud prevention, payment controls, internal controls, and asset safeguarding while leveraging automation for accuracy and speed.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, tax accuracy, and audit readiness — Maintain compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and internal policies (including accurate 1099/W-9 handling, tax reporting, and documentation); lead AP-related audits, maintain proper records, and support month-end/year-end close processes (reconciliations, accruals) for timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration and vendor relationship management — Partner with Procurement, Finance, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies, improve upstream processes, support disciplined close cycles, and negotiate favorable payment terms; serve as executive owner for vendor issue resolution and strategic relationships.
• Report on AP performance and drive data-informed decisions — Develop, track, and present key AP metrics, KPIs, aging analysis, and automation impact reports to senior leadership to demonstrate value, identify opportunities, and support strategic decision-making.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred)

· 8–12+ years of progressive experience in accounts payable or finance, including leadership experience

· Strong knowledge of AP processes, internal controls, and financial systems

· Proficient with ERP systems (e.g., Business Central)

· Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to develop and mentor staff

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

· Advance in AI adoption

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
