Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee assigned accounting functions and support accurate financial reporting for a retail-focused organization. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for managing key accounting areas, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, month-end close support, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, audit support, and process improvements within a high-volume, transaction-driven environment.
The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, retail or multi-location experience, and the ability to lead and support accounting team members while partnering effectively across the business.
Duties
- Manage assigned accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and related close activities.
- · Support the Controller in month-end and quarter-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- · Review and approve journal entries related to sales activity, inventory, cost of goods sold, accruals, operating expenses, AP, AR, and other assigned areas.
- · Oversee balance sheet account reconciliations, variance analysis, and timely resolution of reconciling items for assigned accounts.
- · Provide oversight and support for Accounts Payable processes, including vendor activity, payment accuracy, coding, approvals, and related controls.
- · Provide oversight and support for Accounts Receivable processes, including customer/store-related activity, collections support, account application, aging review, and related controls.
- · Manage assigned accounting activities related to retail operations, including store-level transactions, inventory movement, sales-related accounts, and gross margin drivers.
- · Prepare and review monthly financial reports for assigned areas, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- · Partner with store operations, merchandising, finance, and other internal teams to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and properly understood.
- · Support internal and external audits by reviewing schedules, preparing documentation, and responding to audit inquiries for assigned areas.
- · Maintain and strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation related to assigned responsibilities.
- · Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability within assigned accounting functions.
- · Leverage systems, reporting tools, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities where appropriate to improve accounting workflows and financial analysis.
- · Provide coaching, guidance, and support to accounting team members.
- · Assist the Controller with special projects and evolving business needs as the company grows.
Requirements
- · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- · 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- · Prior supervisory, team lead, or management experience preferred.
- · Experience with Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable oversight preferred.
- · Retail accounting experience strongly preferred, particularly in multi-location and/or high-volume transaction environments.
- · Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- · Experience managing or supporting month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- · Familiarity with inventory, cost of goods sold, gross margin, sales activity, AP, AR, and store-level accounting concepts.
- · Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and explain business drivers.
- · Demonstrated ability to lead projects, improve processes, and strengthen internal controls.
- · Effective communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally and explain financial information to non-accounting stakeholders.
