We are seeking an experienced Senior Auditor to support multiple federal contracts within the National Capital Region (NCR). This role is ideal for an audit professional with experience conducting Federal System and Organization Controls (SOC) examinations, strong technical writing skills, and the ability to lead audit engagements from planning through reporting.
Position Overview
The Senior Auditor will lead a variety of financial, IT, and performance audit engagements while supporting federal clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Federal System and Organization Controls (SOC) examinations, exceptional report writing and editing skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
This position is primarily remote, with occasional travel as required by client engagements.
Key Responsibilities: Audit & Compliance
- Develop an understanding of client operations, business processes, internal controls, and organizational objectives.
- Plan, schedule, and lead complex audit engagements while serving as the auditor-in-charge when appropriate.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop audit plans and testing procedures.
- Perform audit fieldwork and evaluate internal controls.
- Research accounting and auditing issues and document conclusions.
- Conduct Federal System and Organization Controls (SOC) examinations in accordance with applicable professional standards.
- Prepare, review, edit, and finalize audit reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with government auditing standards.
- Present audit findings and recommendations through written reports and client presentations.
Report Writing & Documentation
- Prepare clear, concise, and well-organized audit documentation and deliverables.
- Edit and review audit reports for technical accuracy, consistency, grammar, and formatting.
- Produce high-quality client-ready reports using Microsoft Word.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding engagement objectives, timelines, and status updates.
- Collaborate with internal team members and subcontractors to successfully complete engagements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
Leadership & Professional Development
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior auditors and accounting staff.
- Participate in continuing professional education (CPE) and professional development activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the audit practice.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.
Experience
- Minimum 9 years of audit experience supporting federal, state, local government, or public accounting clients.
- Experience conducting System and Organization Controls (SOC) examinations strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of federal accounting principles, auditing standards, and internal controls.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong experience with technical report writing, editing, and document preparation.
- Ability to create polished, client-ready reports with attention to formatting, grammar, and detail.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and government auditing standards.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.
Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
