ENTERPRISE DESIGN SPECIALIST (Software Engineer)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is an application/software development position to support our organization wide web applications. Work includes the responsibility of planning, developing and executing the support of such systems through working with system users and technology management staff. Supervision is not a regular occurring function of this position. Direct supervision is received from an Application Program Manager or other supervising management staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Consults and works with users to develop automated solutions to improve business processes for our financial systems.
Analyzes work procedures to identify those which are adaptable to computer applications.
Devises/applies plans to upgrade from manual methods to computerized systems.
Processes software trouble reports and analyzing the system to determine possible problem areas.
Works with manager or function lead in planning work schedules to meet operating demands and programming commitments.
Works on complex reporting requirements and providing data extraction and analysis for software purchased from an outside vendor.
Performs as a liaison between the customer and vendor personnel that support purchased software.
Writes program instructions (code) in a specific programming language.
Prepares sample test data and debugs the program code.
Plans and implements new software releases, fixes and functionality.
Develops reports, preparing data for export, establishing procedures for importing of data.
SQL code to interact with relation databases(s) for inquiry, updating and creation of database records.
Plans and develops required interfaces to software systems.
Troubleshoots with application software vendors for user/system problem resolution.

Ability to solve problems through the use of logic.
Ability to write code or develop software in one or more computer programming languages or development environments such as Java, C++, Visual Basic, PeopleCode, Spring, etc.
Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Ability to work well with others.
Ability to solve problems through the use of logic.
Ability to write code or develop software in one or more computer programming languages or development environments.
Thorough knowledge of electronic data systems analysis.
Good knowledge of the needs of County departments.
