Job Title: Software Developer Intern (Summer 2026)
We’re excited to welcome a Software Developer Intern to our fast-growing IT team. While our department is located in Holbrook, NY, this internship is offered as a fully remote opportunity.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Software Developer Intern to join our engineering team for the summer. In this role, you will have a unique mix of responsibilities: supporting our core team by clearing our ticketing backlog, taking ownership of a brand-new analytics project, and helping us formalize our engineering workflows.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a modern web development stack, build a high-impact project from scratch, and understand the operational side of a mature engineering team.
Featured Summer Project: Internal Reporting Server:
Beyond day-to-day feature work, your primary project this summer will be helping us architect and build a dedicated Reporting Server. This system will pull and analyze data from various internal departments to generate client-facing deliverables. Your goal will be to transform raw data sets into clean, easy-to-read dashboards and visual graphs that help clients quickly evaluate performance and trends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Ownership: Help design, develop, and deploy the internal reporting and data visualization server using our tech stack.
- Process Documentation: Audit and write clear, comprehensive internal documentation of our current development practices, onboarding workflows, and tech stack setups to help scale the team.
- Feature Development: Assist the core engineering team in implementing new features across our main applications.
- Maintenance & Support: Help clear the team's ticket backlog by investigating, troubleshooting, and fixing software bugs.
- Collaboration: Partner with different departments to understand their data requirements and participate in team code reviews.
Technical Stack & Qualifications:
We don't expect you to be an absolute expert, but you should have a solid foundational understanding and some hands-on project experience with the following:
Required Technical Skills:
- Backend & Frameworks: Familiarity with PHP and modern MVC frameworks (ideally Laravel).
- Frontend & Data Viz: Experience building interfaces using Vue.js, with a strong interest or experience in JavaScript graphing libraries (such as Chart.js, ApexCharts, or D3.js).
- Databases & Data Aggregation: Solid understanding of relational SQL-based databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and how to write queries to aggregate data.
- Containerization: Basic understanding of Docker for setting up and running local development environments.
- Technical Writing: Ability to articulate complex technical workflows into clean, well-structured Markdown documentation (e.g., README files, internal wikis).
Soft Skills & Attributes:
- Strong analytical mindset—you enjoy looking at raw numbers and figuring out how to tell a story with them visually.
- Excellent written communication skills, with an eye for detail when documenting technical processes.
- Highly self-motivated and eager to learn from senior engineers.
What We Offer:
- Direct mentorship from experienced software engineers and technology leaders.
- Potential long-term job placement opportunities.
- Remote work environment.
- Competitive hourly salary - Hourly pay ranging from $19 to $25, commensurate with experience.
- End-to-end ownership of a highly visible data project that will be actively used by clients.
- Exposure to engineering operations through your work standardizing team documentation.
- A collaborative, supportive, and modern engineering culture.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
