Job Title - Behavior Instructional Coach
Supervisor: Behavior Support Coordinator, Director of Counseling, Assessment, & Accountability
Job Goals:
To improve behavior and social emotional learning skills in schools across all grade levels, through collaborative professional development, coaching of teachers, data analysis, and modeling of effective instruction.
To improve teachers’ classroom management, use of MTSS tiered behavior supports and restorative practices.
To assist school administrators and staff in developing individual, class, and schoolwide behavior interventions, including data collection and analysis.
To support the implementation of the Tier 1 schoolwide behavior management system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Alabama professional educator certificate.
Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching or school counseling experience.
Demonstrate expertise in MTSS structures, classroom management and behavior intervention processes and techniques.
Knowledge of and ability to implement effective classroom management and social emotional learning instruction, effective instructional planning, and the use of behavior data to inform practice.
Knowledge of and ability to plan and implement effective teacher coaching and professional development practices.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
Ability to plan and implement lessons and professional development based on system and state guidelines and the needs and abilities of students.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers and administrators.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board or state law may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Plan and implement professional development opportunities that address current research and best practices in classroom behavior strategies.
Provide direct, classroom-based, professional development for teachers, instructional assistants, behavior interventionists, and other professionals through modeling of behavior strategies within the classroom.
Maintain a high-level understanding of behavior management strategies and methodologies, including de-escalation skills and effective management systems, to determine appropriate positive behavior supports and disseminate information to personnel in the schools.
Use appropriate techniques and behavior management strategies that promote and enhance implementation and monitoring of student behavior changes and fidelity of intervention implementation.
Work frequently with students (whole and small group) in the context of modeling and coaching in classrooms.
Work with teachers to ensure that research-based behavior interventions and plans are implemented with fidelity.
Provide professional development in data analysis and using data to differentiate behavioral strategies and instruction.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote a positive learning climate for students that reinforces self-regulation skills and replacement behaviors in at-risk regular education students
Advise principals in making data-based decisions about behavioral instruction.
Provide consultation to the principals on the overall elements and operation of a successful behavioral tiered system of supports and the creation of a culture of positive behavioral supports.
Coordinate activities with supervisors and school administration to develop systems to prevent behaviors that lead to exclusionary discipline.
Help develop and support behavioral leadership teams in schools.
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adheres to professional standards at all times.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
Performs any additional job duties and responsibilities required for this position.
Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
