JOB TITLE: Director of Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives

SUMMARY: The Director of Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives serves the chamber’s mission by identifying and coordinating initiatives that support its members and the Midland community. The Director serves as the front-line connector for the Chamber on public policy, economic and workforce development, and related strategic relationships by advancing the planning and execution of initiatives that serve the interests of the business community. The ideal candidate is a people-first problem solver who enjoys and excels in fact-finding, organization, and delivering excellent results in a fast-paced environment.

ORGANIZATION: The Midland Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit membership-based organization that represents and supports the interests of its members.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Cultivate and strengthen strategic relationships with businesses, foundations, elected officials, government agencies, educational institutions, nonprofits, and community organizations to advance Chamber priorities and initiatives.
• Identify and develop funding opportunities, sponsorships, grants, and strategic investments that support Chamber initiatives.
• Direct workforce development, talent pipeline, and economic competitiveness initiatives in collaboration with business, education, nonprofit, and governmental partners.
• Coordinate business resource initiatives, educational programs, and connections that assist Chamber members in starting, operating, and growing their businesses.
• Lead the development and execution the Chamber’s public policy efforts under the direction of the VP of Chamber Relations and President & CEO and consistent with priorities established by the Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors.
• Monitor local, state, and federal public policy issues and track legislative and administrative activities impacting the business community and prepare summaries, briefings, and background materials.
• Support member engagement in advocacy efforts through survey, roundtables, 1:1 and grassroots outreach, communications, and calls-to-action.
• Assist in the planning and execution of advocacy initiatives, including legislative visits, policy forums, and events, including Legislative Days and Washington Fly-in.
• Potential to create, develop and standup additional programs.
• Staff Chamber events (early mornings/evenings as needed) and provide elevated customer service.
• Serve as liaison and support for programs, committees, such as Government Affairs and Education, and other task forces.
• Draft copy for newsletters, website posts, event scripts, and social media posts, in coordination with the Marketing Coordinator and VP of Chamber Relations.
• Serve as back-up support for answering phones and welcoming office visitors, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• 4+ years’ experience in public policy, government affairs, economic or workforce development, foundations, or nonprofit development; chamber experience is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license required.

Language Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; English required.
• Ability to read, analyze, interpret and draft clear reports, policies, and business correspondence.
• Comfortable presenting information to groups including members, board members, staff, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to understand and apply concepts equivalent to at least high school-level math.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or control objects or equipment. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and calculator is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend a percentage of time working outside of the regular place of work and occasionally working in outside weather conditions.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

COMPENSATION

• $65,000 - $78,000. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
